The video deals with urban middle class apathy and the inertia to move out of the comfort of our haven. The title refers to the tales of the rebirths of the Buddha. The first section alludes to the encounters of prince Siddhartha on his first journey in the city. Siddhartha here stands for the alter-ego that engages in a child like inquiry about the violence that we live with. The media that informs us has a way of dumbing down of our responses- be it news reportage or children’s animated films.
The physical space of the metropolis becomes an imagined frontier to be defended with hostility from any kind of abject influx. The ‘sights’ led to Prince Siddharth’s renunciation of the material ways of life - But what we renounce is our sensitivity. We inhabit mental spaces that are more and more unreal, impervious to reality. The boundaries of these spaces become our cocoons that we refuse to leave.

Jataka I : Aliens

The first section alludes to the encounters of prince Siddhartha on his first journey in the city. (Poverty, disability/ mutilation, death in this case). Siddhartha here stands for the alter-ego that engages in a child like inquiry about the daily encounters we live with. The media that informs us has a way of dumbing down of our responses- be it news reportage or children’s animated films.
The physical space of the metropolis becomes an imagined frontier to be defended with hostility from any kind of abject influx.
Jataka II : Hangover/ Renunciation
The ‘sights’ led to Prince Siddharth’s renunciation of the material ways of life - But what we renounce is our sensitivity. We inhabit mental spaces that are more and more unreal, impervious to reality. The boundaries of these spaces become our cocoons that we refuse to leave. We create our fish tanks around us there by the other world naturally is not our domain ... we can only look at it from our bed...

Jataka III : Utopia

This section raises questions about the future, whether we will build a better world- (as touted by the 'keepers of world peace' their war on terror, decimating cultures and histories in the bargain) are we by these actions producing a germ of new cultures (free of terrorism and other violations) or just spawning a culture of new germs(mushrooming terrorist out fits globally)
