In A Small Alleyway In A Village In Punjab, This Video
Documents Three Door-To-Door Vendors, Each Attempting
To Sell His Produce. Carrying Their Goods On Cycles,
The Men Stop At Doorways, Calling Out A List Of Their
Stock To Unseen, Potential Buyers. However, The Expectation
Of Successfully Selling Any Produce Is Soon Lost, And
Each Of The Men Continues Further Down The Alleyway.
The Work Attempts To Create A Sense Of Expectation And
Disappointment, As The Viewer, Along With The Each Of
The Vendors, Anticipate Something That Doesn’t
Occur. As Each Of The Vendors Walks Away, The Futility
Of An Unfulfilled Purpose Lingers, Leaving It To The
Viewer To Speculate If Any Of The Vendors Will Have
Better Luck Elsewhere.
The Alleyway Itself Contributes To The Solitude Of The
Vendors, As Voices Can Be Heard From Behind The Walls,
Yet The Narrow Alleyway Is Deserted, Leaving The Vendor
As An Outsider.
