By Interrupting The Natural Rate Of The Firecrackers Explosion, This Piece Engages The Viewer Through Its Beauty And Violence. The Tension Between These Two Elements Creates A Sense Of Confrontation That Is Aggressive, Playful And Also Ridiculous. After Being Lit By A Man At The Start Of The Piece, The Firecracker Has Been Edited In A Way That Disrupts The Natural Course Of Its Explosion. Exploding At An Erratic And Unpredictable Pace, Once Lit, The Firecracker Appears To Be Inextinguishable. With Long Moments Of Silence, Suggesting The Explosion Has Extinguished, The Viewer Is Denied A Sense Of Relief As It Continues To Restart. As A Result, The Explosion Is Simultaneously Frightening And Absurd.
Although The Piece Was Filmed In India, It Is Not The Exact Location, But The Ambiguity Of It That Is Relevant To The Work. Similarly, The Uncertainty Of The Camera Being Inside Or Outside Of The Gates Leaves The Issue Of Positions Unresolved.
Lingering Between Documentary And Entertainment, The Work Is Concerned With Notions Inconclusiveness And Unpredictable Reoccurrences.
